The Introduction Post

Hello. In this post I am going to tell you more about the University I have chosen.

In 2022, so this year, I took up Software Engineering course at De Montfort University.
(Shiro, 2022)
I have chosen this university as It is located in the city I live, but that is not the only reason, because there is another university in Leicester. The main reason was the variety of courses it offers and fact that one of my friends is a student at this university and really recommends it.

The Software Engineering course lasts 3 years, with an optional placement year.
There is a dozen of modules, which are:

Year one:

  • Database Design and Implementation
  • Fundamental Concepts of Computer Science
  • Computer Programming
  • Operating Systems and Networks

Year two:

  • Object Oriented Design and Development
  • Data Structures and Algorithms
  • Web Application Development
  • Team Project

Year three (Project Development Year):

  • Software Development: Methods and Standards
  • Mobile App Development and Big Data
  • To be chosen by student from these below
  1. Functional Programming
  2. Advanced Web Development
  3. Embedded Systems and IoT
I am mostly interested in the 'Computer Programming' and 'Functional Programming' modules, as they will be key in my future goal of working as a Software Engineer.
(Joury, 2020)
I think that my journey at DMU will help me gain the necessary skills to become a successful Programmer, and I am hoping to see myself there in 10 years time.
